Toulouse: street art artist Chat Maigre has created a plancha and kitchen bike for street people
Street art artist Kamel Sacraoui, better known as Chat Maigre, has designed a plancha bike to offer invented meals to people on the street.
Appointment was made in the solidarity garden of the Grand Ramier, a stone’s throw from the social restaurant managed by Toulouse Métropole. “This is the second time I’ve come here, testifies Kamel Secraoui, alias Chat Maigre, creator of a plancha bike that cooks for homeless people. I’m starting to know some faces.
In this bucolic space open to all, Kamel has installed his mobile plancha created in the summer of 2021: “The operation is simple, assures Kamel, known in Toulouse for his street art creations, often offbeat. This bike pulls a stainless steel trailer that turns into a mobile plancha, intended to go to inaccessible places, such as the Saint-Aubin district or the Prairie des Filtres, where trucks, for example, cannot pass. Places where the homeless gather”. Because Kamel did not design his plancha bike without but precise “it’s not just to make yet another creation, he specifies, but to allow people in need to eat better with quality products. , prepared with relish.
“The burgers are to die for. Just like the cakes, the pancakes”
An idea born during the first confinement when Kamel distributed food to the poor. “Offering meals is good, but there was a lack of social ties. With this bike, communication suddenly becomes easier. If only on the curiosity of the object”. On this stainless steel griddle, vegetable burgers are delicious, just like meat, fish or cakes “the cuisine is invented and therefore better”.
Having become precarious, Georges, for two months, has been coming to the Grand Ramier but also to the Restos du Cœur “I am a fan of the plancha bike. The burgers are to die for. It almost feels like eating at home.” This was Kamel’s goal: “when I go shopping, I buy food. I buy a little more. I also collect products from supermarkets from time to time”. To grow his project, Kamel also founded the association La Plancha Social Club “I receive donations from all over France to finance a second trailer”, rejoices the Toulousain who also says he is looking for volunteers to give him a hand. .
