A new Comedy to brighten up the Pink City. After the Comédie de Toulouse, an Italian-style theater opened in December 2010 by the Chevaliers du Fiel, welcome to the Comédie de la Roseraie! Friday March 25, 2022, a new café-théâtre will open its doors in the Roseraie districtin the northeast of the city, 200 meters from the metro line A station. The opening show, “Un couple (almost) parfait”, which will be played for the first three days, until Sunday March 27 , symbolizes the spirit of this new place: humor, social issues and lots of good humor.
A room with 110 seats
Behind the creation of this room of 110 seats which hopes to find a place in the Toulouse landscape, we find the couple Mehdi Sersoub and Isabelle Dantas. For these two natives of Lyon, Toulouse is a discovery at all levels.
“We were initially supposed to set up our project in Brussels (Belgium) but that didn’t happen. With a friend, we then found premises in Toulouse and we went for it. We arrived at the beginning of 2022 and we immediately started with work. It’s a crazy bet because we don’t know anyone here. We even had trouble understanding people with their accent!”.
“I’ve always dreamed of creating my café-théâtre”
Isabelle, who previously worked in the decoration industry, is in charge of the management and administrative part. Mehdi, after working for big companies like Sanofi and Bayer, returned to his first love: theater. He notably played roles in the series “Plus belle la vie” and “La intern” (with Michèle Bernier). After a plan of voluntary departures, he turned to his favorite project: the creation of a café-theatre. “I’ve always dreamed of that, to give actors and plays a chance, to highlight culture and talent,” explains the neo-Toulouse.
Humor and social topics
Mehdi will be regularly on stage with “in-house” creations, via the Premier Acte production box. The key word will be humor, derision, the vagaries of the couple and the complex relationships between men and women, always in a spirit of de-dramatization. But not only. “A lot of shows will also revolve around social issues such as work, for example. We want to convey messages across the stage”, specifies Mehdi.
Shows for children
The Comédie de la Roseraie will also be a large section for young audiences. “We are planning a show on Saturday and Sunday, and a program on Wednesday which remains to be finalized. And every day during school holidays,” says Isabelle. The opening show will be “Little Sister Asks Too Many Questions”, Saturday March 26 and Sunday March 27 at 10:30 am.
Projects for the future
One-man-shows, improv, acting classes, castings for new plays… While the program is complete until June 2022, Mehdi is overflowing with ideas to fill out the proposals for the new Comédie de la Ville rose. On the catering side, the café-théâtre hopes to quickly have a license 3 to offer an offer to spectators. On the development, they also hope to open, in 2023, a 300 m terrace2 for sunny days.
