2000 demonstrators from all the departments of Midi-Pyrénées met in Toulouse on Thursday March 24, 2022, to Demonstrate for an increase in pensionsat the call of nine trade union organizations (including the CGT, FO and the CFTC).
Among the demands of retirees: a annual increase in pensions indexed to salary increases and the cancellation of the increase in the CSG “in order toimprove the living conditions of retireeswhich have deteriorated sharply for a decade”, as the press release from the nine unions points out.
“The situation of retirees today is extremely serious, underlines Hubert Dandine, of the trade union of retirees CGT 31. Action needs to grow, because it will go very badly. Young people today are in a catastrophic situation if they do not fight for their social protection, social security and their pensions today. »
“No, social contributions are not charges, but part of the salary essential to the financing of our health and pension system. Health and purchasing power are the priority concerns of retirees. »
Retirees also denounce the lack of investment in the public hospital. They ask the creation of 300,000 jobs in the medico-social sectorin particular in EHPADs, and the creation of a “large public autonomy service”.
The dematerialization of public services and the digitization of administrative procedures are another concern of the demonstrators. “Nearly one in four people have neither a computer nor a tablet,” recall the unions. The elderly are particularly affected by this digital divide.
Presidential programs at the heart of concerns
As the elections approach, union representatives are calling on voters to study the candidates’ platforms. “The announcements that the outgoing president has made are in line with the policy he has pursued until now. But the elections are not done today and there are the legislative elections behind it”, emphasizes Hubert Dandine.
Leaving from Place Saint-Cyprien at 2.30 p.m., the procession headed towards the prefecture by going up the Pont Neuf and Place Esquirol.
