Tarn-et-Garonne: the breakdown of a freight train severely disrupted SNCF traffic between Toulouse and Montauban
Many trains were canceled this Thursday evening March 24 following the breakdown of a freight train between Toulouse and Montauban.
A problem with the braking system of a locomotive is causing major disruptions in rail traffic between Montauban and Toulouse, this Thursday evening March 24, for three hours.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m., at a rush hour. When the freight train circulated at the level of the commune of Montbartier (Tarn-et-Garonne), the driver detected signs of failure of the brakes of his machine. The locomotive was immediately stopped on its track.
Pending the arrival of the recovery teams, traffic was interrupted on one of the two rail traffic lanes.
In a first message posted on social networks, the SNCF had indicated that a gradual resumption of traffic could take place around 7 p.m. Travelers were able to board a substitute TGV, in the direction of Montauban in Toulouse. Two buses also left Toulouse for Montauban.
Shortly after 8 p.m., the SNCF announced a return to normal rail traffic.
As for the freight train, it was temporarily repaired by the teams of technicians and was able to return to “careful walking”, that is to say at 30 km / hour the Montauban station.
