Expo 2030 Rome: a great opportunity. This is why Unindustria first launched the idea
The idea of nominating Rome to host Expo 2030 started with Unindustria Lazio which considers it an unrepeatable opportunity to relaunch the capital and the whole country.
Unindustria has always maintained that the issue of sustainable transformations in large cities was a great opportunity to relaunch itself on the international scene and with a leading role for the country. For this reason, in 2020, President Angelo Camilli in his inauguration speech at the helm of Unindustria, launched the idea of nominating the city to host the Expo. The Municipality of Rome, with the former Mayor Virginia Raggi, immediately showed great interest, accepting our proposal and making it a project shared by the other candidates for the office of Mayor in the last administrative elections. From there, a path was born that led the Prime Minister Mario Draghi, at the end of September 2021, to nominate Rome officers to organize theUniversal Exposition of 2030.
The challenge of Expo 2030 Rome
The spirit of the idea that Unindustria first launched, then grasped by the Capitoline administration and the government, was to open a season of transformation for the city by giving itself an ambitious goal and a clear objective. Hosting a Universal Exposition on the new sense of cities, in our international opinion, represents a way to catalyze attention on our capital, but also to impose on Rome the responsibility for a challenge that concerns itself and its role as a guide and example for the whole country.
During the last Unindustria Board of Directors, we met Ambassador Giampiero Massolo, a head of the organizing committee of the Expo. With him, the creation of a foundation open to all the productive forces of the city, which will support the participating institutions for future projects and relaunch the candidacy of Rome in all countries to the BIE, has been agreed. It will certainly be necessary to improve the story of the City, starting with the promotion of the Roma brand in a tourist key. The Expo represents a great opportunity and an important opportunity to be seized, a challenge that can only be won through broad sharing of the project by all the institutional, entrepreneurial and social components of the city.
Unindustria in Dubai for Rome’s candidacy
For our role as promoters, in the first days of March, we left for Dubai for Expo 2020, with a delegation led first by Giampaolo Letta, President of the Technical Group for Tourism, Culture and Major Events of Unindustria, to support the official candidacy of Rome to host Expo 2030, together with the Mayor of Rome Capital Roberto Gualtieri. In the following days, the President of the Lazio Region Nicola Zingaretti and our President Angelo Camilli, once again relaunched the importance of Rome’s candidacy.
Our city has all the credentials to face this challenge and definitively overturn the image of a capital that for too long has been hostage to its limits, when instead it has all the potential to return to being a historical and civil cultural reference for all the world.
