The Body Shop launches its new sustainable store concept in Toulouse
The Body Shop, an iconic activist brand, certified B-Corp since 2019, is redeveloping its Toulouse boutique on rue du Poids de l’huile with its new concept of responsible boutique called “Activist Maker workshop”.
THE BODY STORE
Face, body and hair care, make-up, charging stations.
Ethical and responsible beauty products, inspired by nature.
“Activist Maker workshop”: an interactive shop to fight for a fairer and more beautiful world
Through this new concept, The Body Shop invites its customers to test the textures but above all to consume in a sustainable way, taking into account the protection of the planet and the well-being of communities.
True to its commitment to the planet, The Body Shop has favored sustainable materials such as reclaimed wood and recycled plastic. For the facade of the store, The Body Shop opted for zinc, an eco-responsible material that requires less energy than other elements and that can be recycled from old roofs. The shops of this concept highlight throughout the world the architectural or artistic specificities of the city in which they are located: for Toulouse on part of the shop is highlighted the emblematic pink brick of the city.
A filling station
The Body Shop is convinced that the use of refills is an effective solution to limit waste. Consumers are thus encouraged to opt for this alternative in order to avoid the consumption of single-use packaging. Several hygiene product references are available as refills: shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid hand soaps. Once the bottle is empty, just rinse it and bring it back to the store to refill it.
These stations have been deployed in all of The Body Shop’s French stores, making it the first beauty brand to offer this solution across its entire network. By changing habits, more than 25 tons of plastic could be saved each year. By considering refilling, consumers could save 32 plastic bottles from being thrown away per year. A good practice for the planet but also for the wallet, by switching to refillable bottles, an average of 76 euros could be saved per year*.
The illustrator Servane Ardeois stages Toulouse in the shop
Servane Ardeois graduated with a BTS in Space Design and then turned to designing objects. It was during a five-month trip to Africa that she deepened her work as an illustrator. His creations speak of suspended moments, of softness. The present landscapes are an assemblage of towns and environments that he has encountered since childhood. The project with the brand delivered to her heart, evoking subjects that affect her such as the environment and the reduction of packaging, hence her interpretation of the message REFILL REUSE REPEAT
In the Toulouse shop Servane has produced an acrylic painting on a wooden panel, thus featuring Toulouse, the Pont de Saint-Pierre with the Garonne, and two women who address the public, receive a form of complicity. She also made a Tote bag specially designed for the opening of the new The Body Shop, using the elements of the panel and its color palette.
More sustainable iconic products
In this new concept, we find the products that have made the reputation of the brand but revisited in a more sustainable way. Among them, the iconic White Musk perfume has become 100% vegan with a brand new design made from 42% recycled glass and without packaging.
But also body butters also certified Vegan, containing at least 95% ingredients of natural origin, and made from 100% recycled plastic, part of which comes from the Fair Trade Partner Plastics for Change in India. Products that reflect the brand’s commitments: respectful of human beings, animals and the environment.
Activist Corner
The new boutique contains a corner where customers can learn about the brand’s committed roots, as well as understand how they can get involved and take a stand. For the opening, the “Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics” campaign will be honored, which is campaigning for 1 million signatures of the European Citizens’ Initiative committing to a Europe without animal testing in the cosmetics industry.
A team of activists
The “Activist Maker workshop” team is on site to support customers in the experience of these new spaces. It offers both expert advice on products but also presents the activities of The Body Shop’s latest campaigns to fight for a fairer and more beautiful world.
