for the first time in its existence, Act Up Sud-Ouest is on strike
This is a first in the history of the association. The members of Act Up Sud-Ouest have caused a strike and will demonstrate Wednesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. In Toulouse. They denounce “thegeneral exhaustion of its salaried and militant members” as well as difficult working conditions for the continuation of activities.
While the association has 12 employees, it alerts funders to the workload incumbent on professionals but also volunteers, which “has continued to increase […] until it becomes unbearable” but also on the occupied premises “unchanged for more than 20 years”.
An additional post and a new location
The temporary suspension of activities of ground was decided during the general assembly of the association, on March 8th. Act Up South West claim an additional employee position in order to carry out the management and coordination missions as well as a room “allowing work in decent conditionsand to welcome our audiences.” She calls for dialogue with the association’s funders in order to “find concrete and quick solutions“.
We have held out so far out of conviction, but Act Up Sud-Ouest could stop tomorrow. Commitment does not replace the material conditions necessary for our actions”, insists the association in its call for mobilization.
Note that the rally for this Wednesday, March 23 is scheduled at 6.30 p.m. in the square Charles de Gaulleat the Capitole metro exit.
Act Up Sud-Ouest has been acting for 31 years in the fight against HIV and hepatitis. The association also works against the discrimination experienced by the LGBTQI+ community. Its field of action ranges from social support to prevention, including defending the rights of the populations concerned.
