FAI Days: a heritage to discover in Milan
The spring FAI days evoke this last weekend of March with the visit of many unusual places, to discover more or less known treasures in Italy, with novelties in Milan.
Some 700 exceptional openings in 400 cities in Italy, to divulge and make known the artistic, historical and environmental heritage of the Peninsula. This is the objective of the FAI Foundation, Fond Ambiente Italiano, which is organizing the 30th edition on the weekend of March 26 and 27, the days of new visits, to discover more or less known treasures of Italian heritage, usually closed. to the public.
From accessible Lombard placesthere is a wide variety: mills, mansions, castles, power stations, theaters, or even sacred places and aqueducts.
An opportunity to discover the Orsini Palace located via Borgonuovo in the fashion quadrangle, headquarters of Armani (but reservations are already full).
the Palace Inps, public building of the Social Welfare Institution dating from 1928-30 (piazza Missori), is also opening its doors to visitors for the first time. Behind the imposing and austere facade, a spectacular staircase and some rooms have retained their period decoration.
The FAI days are also unveiled, also for the first time, the military ovens of Barracks XXIV Maggio (via Vincenzo Monti). Built in 1894, the structure houses eight ovens which at the time produced 70 tons of bread per day during World War II.
Another new visit: it will be possible to climb the Torre dei Gorani, dating from the 11th century and recently restored (corso Magenta). The tower, which survived the bombardments of 1943, was then part of a private mansion which took the name of the family who lived there in the 17th century.
Passing through Sempione Park, the library in concrete and glass, immersed in green space, is worth a visit, in addition to the Appiani Palace and its civic arena, which remains a testimony to Napoleon’s visit to Milan.
Also to be seen in Milan, the Monastery of the Visitation Santa Maria (in the Ticino district), the Villa Simonettethe Villa Necchi Campiglio (accessible the rest of the year), a legendary house, a true testimony to the life of the Milanese bourgeoisie of the 1930s.
