The City of Toulouse has taken on the challenge of planting nearly 10,000 trees per year in order to revegetate its territory and improve the living environment of its inhabitants. This Friday, March 18, 2022, nearly 400 trees on the edge of the Bois de l’Hers were planted in Malepère.
With the participation of schoolchildren
For the occasion, about thirty children from the Georges Mailhos school participated in this day in Malepère. So these are one or more plants planted per child who are identified by information boards composed of the name of the tree with the image of the leaf, flower or fruit.
In addition, all plants planted come from local nurseries. They are tracked pendant three years to ensure their proper development.
A target of 10,000 trees each year
The Town Hall of Toulouse has set itself the goal of planting nearly 10,000 trees per year up to 2030 in order to reach the threshold of 100,000 new trees planted.
The more urbanized areas will be vegetated in order to bring freshness to these spaces which retain more heat, also called “heat islands”.
The Town Hall of Toulouse also adds that the “Plan Trees” will make it possible “to protect, develop and balance the plant cover throughout the city”.

Note that this environmental project is open to anyone who wishes to contribute. Individuals and companies can contribute to advancing nature in the city by financing the planting of trees. For this, these are two projects that are open to donations:
- The creation of a new landscaped garden in Montaudran called “The Gardens of Brazil and Chile” with the planting of some 280 trees in 2022 on this remarkable heritage and environmental site.
- The planting of trees in the rue de Metz sector (soon to be renovated) and the future forecourt of the Musée des Augustins. The goal is to plant 35 trees in this historic district.
The essential information can be found on the Toulouse City Hall website, which has made available a list of all upcoming projects that are open for donations.
