Conflicts – Berlin – Senate discusses Ukraine refugees – politics
Berlin (dpa/bb) – The Berlin Senate is again deliberating today on the challenges posed by taking in war refugees from Ukraine. It IS expected that Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) will present a concept with options for action – including declaring a disaster as one of the last options.
The Senate asked Spranger for this concept a week ago because of the exceptional situation. At the same time, the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) had rejected demands from the CDU, for example, to declare the case immediately because of the large number of refugees arriving. This point has not yet come, she said last Tuesday.
The assumption is unlikely to have changed this week after a slight decrease in the number of refugees and the opening of the new arrival center at the closed Tegel Airport. The Senate does not rule out that Berlin will have to take such a step one day. That depends largely on how many refugees from Ukraine still come to the capital.
In addition to this overarching topic, the Senate is working on a number of projects from its program for the first 100 days. Among other things, it should be about a climate committee as a new steering committee, about the official appointment of teachers and about more support for victims of crime.
