Zlatko Junuzovic on Salzburg farewell: “Would have liked to have stayed”
Zlatko Junuzovic made his comeback for Red Bull Salzburg in the 4-1 away win at Wolfsberger AC on Sunday. After the final whistle he spoke about his expected farewell, which was fixed during the week.
Red Bull Salzburg confirmed on the club’s website on Thursday that the collaboration with Zlatko Junuzovic will end in the summer of 2022. The 34-year-old’s expiring contract will not be extended.
On Sunday, however, Junuzovic celebrated his comeback in the Salzburg jersey and was substituted on for Luka Sucic against WAC after 75 minutes. “It’s a nice feeling and easier when the result is right. It feels great to be in place,” said Junuzovic heaven. Most recently, Junuzovic was not in the squad of the Austrian series champion.
“Despite everything, the talks were good, I emphasized how comfortable I feel in Salzburg, but in the end the decision was made. I would have liked to have stayed longer but I think the club has shown the way they are going in the past. The step has done me extremely well and I’m enjoying the last few weeks and months here. I would like to present myself to the fans for the many great messages and I will dig in until the end.”
Junuzovic: “Had one or the other request”
How things will continue for him is still unclear. “There have been one or two requests without going into detail now. I will clarify this with my family. At the moment I’m concentrating on my fitness level and concentrating on the next games with the boys,” reveals the midfielder. Specifically, Wolfsberger AC and LASK should show interest in the veteran.
Salzburg sports director Christoph Freund also said about the future of the 55-time ÖFB team player: “As a club, we decided to start the season with a very young team. We also clarified that with Zladi in good, fair discussions. We brought Zladi to us three and a half years ago and he has won every title with us and played in the Champions League. He’s a great person.”
Freund continues: “As an association, we are set up in such a way that we want to give young people a chance. We have extended our captainship with Andreas Ulmer. We are convinced that we can continue to be very successful in the future with the boys who are coming. We are proud that he was with us and was so successful with us and wish him all the best for the summer.”
