Two AS Monaco legends at kick-off
This Sunday, John Collins and Rui Barros, two midfielders who have worn the red and white colors and marked the history of the Club, will give the fictitious kickoff of the meeting between AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.
John Collins and Rui Barros will thus return to their former garden at the Stade Louis-II, which they both knew at different times.
Champion of France in 1997 with AS Monaco, the Scot played on the Rock between 1996 and 1998. During his two Monegasque seasons, the midfielder also took part in the epic of Jean Tigana’s men until in the semi-finals of the Champions League in 1998.
Rui Barros to accompany him
Nicknamed the “atomic ant”, Rui Barros (1.59m) enchanted the Monegasque public between 1990 and 1993 with his silky technique and his science of the pass.
His finest will certainly remain that offered to Gerald Passi in the final of the Coupe de France 1991, during which the Monegasques beat Olympique de Marseille at the Parc des Princes.
Vice-champion of France twice (1991 and 1992), the Portuguese international was also part of the Monegasque adventure until the final of the Coupe des Coupes (1992) with the team then coached by Arsène Wenger.
