Toulouse: Stéphanie and Dan: family self-defense
Stéphanie Falcou and Dan Bertrand are launching family self-defense courses. A response to the many requests to manage conflicts.
From March 27, after Sunday breakfast, we can follow a stage of self-defense, including with the family. An initiative of Stéphanie Falcou and Dan Bertrand, both teachers of this discipline at Frouzins. “We can follow these steps either to train or improve self-defense, believes Dan Bertrand, instructor for thirty years, among others for the GIGN (national gendarmerie intervention group). We open them to families for several reasons: first we agree that this discipline should be taught in schools from an early age, because there are many requests and then it’s more fun to follow these stages as a family. This breaks the rigidity of the course”.
According to him, learning self-defense techniques is not just about knowing how to defend yourself physically. It is also necessary to know how to prevent violence, at the verbal level. “You also have to know how to help others.”
“For children, it is of course a specific learning. Techniques which must bring them to the gesture of final defense”
Obviously special learning for children: “To teach them to crush, for example, the foot of their attacker, we will use equipment, colors, details Stéphanie. So many techniques to bring them to the gesture of final defense ”. If, at first, the children are a little shy, they quickly get into the technique, understanding that this game can also be a defense tool. These two trainers accustomed to different structures (companies, health establishments, etc.), know that the problems of conflict, verbal and physical aggression are unfortunately numerous. “We have, for example, requests from families where one of the children is being harassed at school. The parents are a little lost. Others come for prevention. We also respond to violence against women. Moreover, on March 27, we are giving a 100% female course in Saint-Orens”.
According to him, all major cities are affected by this problem. Toulouse is no exception: “With Stéphanie, we are complementary. Our duo allows all audiences to find themselves there. Women, for example, are more receptive to a female instructor.”
Without promising miracles, Stephanie and Dan just want to dispense the “keys” to avoid the worst. “You know, 80% of attacks are verbal and take place on a daily basis, often in public spaces”.
March 27, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., mixed course (children) in the premises of the ASPTT, 47 rue Soupetard in Toulouse. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., female stage at the Maison des Arts Martials, chemin des Tuileries, in Saint-Orens. Information: 0695327866
