three hundred vandals put the city to fire and sword / PHOTOS AND VIDEO
An afternoon of urban warfare in Florence, such as had not been seen for a long time. The demonstration of anarcho-antagonists and autonomous people against the eviction of the occupation of viale Corsica, scheduled for the afternoon in piazza Leopoldo, in Lo Statuto, turned into a violent procession that ran for over two hours between Rifredi, San Jacopino, Novoli, up to Porta al Prato, unleashing chaos and causing damage of all kinds.
The demonstrators, about 300-350, also coming from Piedmont, Lombardy, Sardinia, Campania, waited for the sun to set to start the procession, with chants against the police and harangues at the megaphone. A bad sign, the waiting for darkness.
And after a few tens of meters of walking, they began to attack the windows of the banks – raging in particular on a Unicredit branch – overturning and burning bins, throwing paper bombs and smoke bombs, especially in via Pisacane and in via Maragliano. Continuing in this way for half the city (without touching the historic center). The damage will be huge.
A car with some people on board, terrified, was beaten between viale Redi and via Doni, after the procession crossed the Mugnone on the Ghandi bridge.
Dumpsters on fire and material taken from road construction sites along the route were thrown into the middle of the road like barricades, to block the police and have time to devote themselves to the devastation, several times, in particular on the via Pietro Della Valle route. -Via Odorico From Pordenone. The traders were quick to close the shops.
The police in riot gear, present in large numbers, responded to the dense throws of paper bombs and objects by the demonstrators – especially in the San Jacopino area – with numerous tear gas.
But they never charged, to avoid even worse trouble. The police helicopters followed the entire procession from above, attracting the attention of many citizens.
At many points along the route, the air has become acrid due to the smoke and tear gas, almost unbreathable, making passersby flee. In via Michelucci, Leopolda area, the procession frayed and, before being dispersed by the police, four people were stopped and arrested by agents.
These are two boys and two girls who were immediately taken to the police offices. On many others, yet to be defined, investigations have already begun. There is also a complaint. Four accounts between the police.
