Soccer – Berlin – Ex-Herthan Kiraly misses the team’s readiness – Sport
Berlin (AP) – Gabor Kiraly has criticized the attitude of the current professionals of the relegation-threatened Bundesliga club Hertha BSC. “What the players have shown so far is not enough, there must be more now,” said the 45-year-old Hungarian to the Internet portal “t-online” (Saturday). The former player of the Berlin club emphasized: It is now important to show character – as a team.”
Kiraly played in the goal of the Berliners from 1997 to 2004, his trademark was the sweatpants. With regard to the current Hertha situation, he referred to his active time with players such as Andreas Neuendorf, Andreas Thom, Arne Friedrich and Michael Hartmann.
“These were players who really identified with the club, some are still working at the club today,” said the former Hungarian international goalkeeper. “We’ve all got through difficult times together, we’ve played together for years, and that creates a special connection.”
However, this connection requires patience, which according to Kiraly is no longer sufficient today: “If things didn’t go well for us at the time, we just kept going, worked harder – and at some point there was a sense of achievement. But there has to be the willingness to do so. “
Kiraly expects that the new coach Felix Magath, who was presented as the successor to Tayfun Korkut last Sunday, can tease this willingness out of the team. “The players sometimes have to go beyond the pain threshold, and Felix Magath can be the right man for that. There are definitely still several games left to do it. Felix Magath will make a difference with his attitude.”
