The installation of radio and electronic devices for forty Gidrán-type combat vehicles manufactured in Turkey will soon begin in Kaposvár, and later components will be manufactured locally for hundreds of copies – the government commissioner responsible for defense developments will continue at the Somogy county seat on Saturday.
Gáspár Maróth said at the professional workshop of the University of Óbuda’s Smart Industry Science and Innovation Park in Kaposvár (TIPK) that the combat vehicle – of which the Hungarian army had previously bought ten and plans to procure hundreds – is an emblematic development of the leading Turkish military industry.
He said: In Kaposvár, in one of the existing factory halls of the industrial park, the integration of the first forty vehicles will begin, ie its equipment with tactical, radio, electronic devices and sensors will begin. He added that the main components of the vehicles will also be manufactured at the Somogy county seat, and their complete assembly can take place on site at a later date.
At the event, László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology, said that the TIPK, which will be built in Kaposvár, will also carry out military research and development activities, which promises a great future for military industry developments in the world.
He drew attention to the fact that the labor market was organized in the direction of higher value tasks, and this was also the transformation of the training system in Hungary.
He emphasized that the growth rate of investments was in the “EU TOP 3” between 2015 and 2019 in Hungary, which is important because “the current investment is the growth of the future”.
In his opinion, Hungary is also at the forefront of innovation, as it has the largest increase in the number of people working in research and development in the EU since 2010. Due to this, he added that the Hungarian government provides outstanding support to the R&D sector in proportion to GDP.
According to him, the government wants to have 70% of the buses on the market by 2030, with one in ten railway vehicles being made in Hungarian factories, the Hungarian defense industry capable of self-sufficiency and the health industry at a similar level. provide vaccines to protect against various viruses.
Minister of Finance Mihály Varga, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rudolf Kalman Foundation for the University of Óbuda, said: It is extremely important for the country to have a stable economy, to be prepared for the most unexpected situations, to have a strong defense industry self-sufficiency.
He said the pandemic and the war have shown that regaining these capabilities is paramount, and also for the country’s competitiveness. According to the TIPK and the military industry activity in Kaposvár, it will also serve all these purposes.

Last May, Károly Szita announced that the local government of Kaposvár and the University of Óbuda were planning to build a science and innovation park in the county seat of Somogy.
