The Netherlands scores points in conflict with competitor Portugal on the coefficient list | football
The Netherlands is still at the top of the UEFA coefficient list for the current season. With 17,400 points, our country is still just ahead of England (17,285) and France (17,280). The biggest points pack is still Ajax because of the bonus of the group win. The team from Amsterdam has amassed 22.0 points.
The two teams that are still active, Feyenoorden, have collected 20.5 and 16.5 points for the coefficient list and the eliminated Vitesse and AZ both 14.0 points. Due to the draws against Bodø/Glimt and AS Roma, AZ and Vitesse have added another 0.2 points to their total.
Mention
The current total of 17,400 points is an absolute record for Dutch football. The most successful season on the UEFA coefficient ranking was until 13,600 points were earned this season 2011/2012. The Conference League – called the Jut and Jul competition by national coach Louis van Gaal contemptuously – has given Dutch club football a major boost in terms of ranking points.
So much so that a seizure of power in the battle with Portugal for the main second place. The Netherlands has again overrun despite the elimination of Ajax by Benfica. Portugal is in seventh place in the coefficient ranking for this season with 12,416 points. With a view to the ranking, the team from Amsterdam could have made a huge difference by blocking the club from Lisbon, but lost their teeth on the tough team. Portugal now has two points packers left: in addition to Benfica in the Champions League, it is SC Braga, which was too strong for AS Monaco in the Europa League over two matches.
Good news
On the coefficient ranking over five seasons, on the basis of which the European tickets are distributed† The Netherlands is currently seventh. The gap with number six Portugal on that five-year ranking is still large (47,500 points against 52,882 points respectively), but the good news for the Netherlands is that this season the points from the European disaster season 2017/2018, when Ajax and PSV immediately lost their lives in the preliminary rounds. and Vitesse and Feyenoord did not prepare much in the group stage of plans Europa League and Champions League, falling away. That season has been pushing the total of the Netherlands on the five-year ranking for years. Where the Netherlands sees the bad score of 2,900 points disappear, Portugal sees a good score of 9,666 points evaporate.
And so the Netherlands is virtually over Portugal for the distribution of European tickets in the 2024/2025 season. At the moment, the Netherlands can boast of a total of 44,600 points in that five-year ranking and Portugal on 43,216 points. PSV and Feyenoord in the remainder of this season and the European clubs in the Netherlands managed to consolidate in the coming season from Portugal. It is therefore not too early to cheer, but the prospects are still good, despite the elimination of Ajax, AZ and Vitesse this week.
