Toulouse: Nobel petition in support of Ukraine, Jean Tirole was not asked but is committed
Jean Tirole, 2014 Nobel laureate in economics, is not on the list of Nobel signatories to a petition in support of Ukraine because he was not asked. The Toulouse economics professor is involved, with Toulouse School of Economics, in actions in favor of Ukraine and its threatened researchers.
We mention in La Dépêche du Midi of March 16 the petition signed by 180 Nobel laureates in support of Ukraine, published in “Le Monde”.
Joël Echevarria, Deputy Director General of Public Affairs and Governance of the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), indicates that Jean Tirole, Nobel Prize in Economics 2014, who does not appear on this list, “was not solicited” by the people who started this petition.
A partnership with the Kiyv School of Economics
The managing director of the school dear to Jean Tirole recalls: “Three weeks ago we responded to a call from the Kiyv School of Economics, at the request of its president, Tymofiy Mylovanov. We have since organized several seminars in support of Ukraine, including one led by Jean Tirole. These works have been published online. TSE aims to mobilize economic researchers on how to testify to what is happening in Ukraine, and tell the truth, particularly to the Russian media. One of the Kyiv University buildings was hit with researchers inside. We thought about a partnership agreement with the Kiyv School of Economics in order to welcome doctoral students or young researchers who could not complete their studies in Ukraine. Jean Tirole is making a concrete commitment to Ukraine and its researchers”, discovered the Deputy Managing Director of TSE.
