Despite the draw against Braga, Philippe Clément and Monaco leave the Europa League
Thursday evening, AS Monaco shared the challenge against Braga, 1-1, in the second leg of the knockout stages of the Europa League. Philippe Clément’s men therefore leave the competition after their 2-0 defeat in the first leg. Braga immediately took cover in the first half. After a difficult counter negotiated by the Monegasque defense, Ruiz fired a long shot which ended up in the back of Alexander Nubel’s net after being deflected (0-1, 20th).
Led by 3 goals in total in the two games, AS Monaco could not find the answer quickly enough. The equalizing goal only arrived in the 90th minute, from Axel Disasi’s header from a corner kicked by Golovin (1-1). Eliot Matazo, starter in the first leg, remained on the bench throughout the game.
Braga joined RB Leipzig, Atalanta, Rangers and FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals while awaiting the results of Thursday evening’s final matches.
