Refugee reception, all volunteers involved in the first health screening
We called them heroes already from the height of the health emergency. And I have been in the ward for two years, without saving energy and emotional involvement. Today they are still at the forefront of a new emergency: the war and the arrival of refugees from Ukraine, volunteering for free, for two hours a day from 4 March, for the first health screening:
“A confirmation of the mission of respect for every health worker – he says Marina Corsi who coordinates the volunteers – All the operators are unanimously committed to this new emergency. An organization that was born suddenly, but not improvised, coordinated by Direction of the Hospital Department and the General Management. In particular, it emerged that many operators spontaneously and voluntarily gave extra availability, beyond working hours, over 80 operators including doctors and nurses are alternating to cover the hours of this clinic.“.
A dozen even today for the first visit, already carried out on over 200 refugees: collection of personal data, swab and medical examination, for children also subsequent access to pediatrics, investigation of vaccinations, without neglecting the psychological aspect. “We do the basic visit, we ask if they are following therapies, if they need drugs. They swab, we assess the general state and we also ask about mandatory childhood and anti-covid vaccinations. They are fine, because they are mostly young people, but the psychological state should not be underestimated, given that they come from a very dramatic situation“.
