AS Monaco – Sporting Braga 1-1
After the 2-0 win in the first leg, a 1-1 draw in the return was sufficient for Sporting Braga for a place in the quarterfinals. Abel Ruiz put the Portuguese on after eighteen minutes. That seemed to be enough for the victory, but just before time Monaco came to the same level via Axel Disasi. Due to the draw of Sporting Braga, Portugal can again add some points to the coefficient list. In addition, the club can collect more points in the next round(s). Good news for Portugal, bad news for the Netherlands.
Red Star Belgrade – Rangers 2-1
For Rangers, reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League was a formality after the 3-0 win in the first leg. Still, it was still a bit of a squeeze for the team of coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst when Mirko Ivanic put the 1-0 on the scoreboard within ten minutes. Red Star Belgrade was allowed to hope for a good outcome when Ryan Kent scored the equalizer ten minutes after the break. The 2-1 fell just before time, but too late for a Serbian comeback.
Bayer Leverkusen – Atalanta 0-1
With Mitchel Bakker, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Hans Hateboer, Marten de Roon and Teun Koopmeiners, no fewer than five Dutchmen kicked off in Leverkusen. Where the first leg was a goal-rich victory for Atalanta, only one goal was scored in the return. Jérémie Boga took the 0-1 in injury time. The Italians continue in the Europa League.
