Bank scam in Toulouse: an octogenarian weakened by a stroke reimbursed by his bank
An 82-year-old man from Toulouse, victim of a scam using a SumUp payment box, won his case with his banking establishment. Carrefour Banque reimbursed him all of the amounts fraudulently debited.
“It’s a real relaxation. Initially, I was really not sure of being compensated. Now I tell myself that I did well to open an account in this bank,” smiles Michel.
. This octogenarian from Toulouse, former air traffic controller then teacher at Enac (national school of civil aviation) had been the victim of a scam of a new kind. It was February 17. A false delivery man comes to his home with a package under his arm. He tells him that he has to reimburse him 80 euros on a recent purchase. The old man, made vulnerable by a stroke in 2011 which had almost knocked him down, is not suspicious and lets the ugly into his home.
The latter takes a SumUp payment terminal from his pocket, a small electronic box often used by small traders and on the markets. He asks the retiree for his credit card and takes more than 3,080 euros from him in three transactions before leaving the premises. Michel took it upon himself to file a complaint and send a detailed letter to Carrefour Banque, his banking establishment, to explain the scam of which he was the victim. On March 16, the bank reimbursed the full amount stolen free of charge.
