Toulouse: discover the works of the Abattoirs museum in the shops of Saint-Aubin
Until May 28, several traders from Saint-Aubin-Colombette are exhibiting works from the Musée des Abattoirs. A unique artistic experience.
Do you know the work of designer Richard Fauguet? It can be discovered on rue de la Colombette at one of the fourteen merchants as part of the Neighborhood Museum. A project imagined by Antoine Bérès, founder of the Art & Quotidien association, in partnership with the Abattoirs, Frac Occitanie Toulouse Museum and the Association of artisans and merchants of the Saint-Aubin/Colombette district. “Why the Saint-Aubin district? Simply because he was one of the first to react to our proposal, notes Antoine Bérès. Until May 28, you can thus, by pushing the door of cheese or a shop of the admirer of works of art from the collection of the Abattoirs. A unique experience that makes the customer-merchant relationship different. Moreover, each of them notes in a small notebook the comments of the public on the discovery of the work”.
An artistic adventure born after all the cultural places deemed “non-essential” were closed, thus questioning the place of art and culture in everyone’s daily life. “It is from this observation that this idea was born, believes Antoine Bérès. It is also a way of bringing art out of museums and exhibiting it in an urban environment”. After a first choice of works made with the Abattoirs, a first proposal was made to traders. Their agreement was essential.
“our neighborhood rich in workshops and art galleries is predisposed to this type of initiative”
This idea enchants artists, like the photographer François Saint-Pierre, whose work is presented at the Mômerie (children’s clothing boutique): “this project transports art to the public in an appropriate context”. “The Frac (regional fund for contemporary arts), created in 1982 by Jack Lang, allows art to be placed in the very heart of the city, recalls Pierre Esplugas, deputy mayor in charge of museums. A great way to make the public less resistant to creation”. An experience that was of course enthusiastic about François Scheerens, secretary of the Association of artisans and merchants of Saint-Aubin-Colombette. On an immediate positive response to this idea, he supports. Our neighborhood is rich in workshops and art galleries, hence the obviousness of this initiative. Let’s not forget that two years ago we created Colomb’art to once again make artistic creation available to the neighborhood”.
