The Toulouse vaccinodrome has closed its doors
Reopened on December 9, the Toulouse vaccinodrome closed on Saturday March 12 due to the drop in demand. The other sites of the department should draw the curtain on March 31.
Housed in hall 8 of the former Parc des expos on the island of Ramier, the Toulouse vaccinodrome, which had reopened on December 9, after the generalization of the 3rd dose of the vaccine against Covid, closed its doors this Saturday March 12, at 8 p.m. The demand for vaccination, which was around 4,000 appointments per day at the beginning of January, has continued to decline as the galloping contagion due to the Omicron variant continues. In mid-February, less than a thousand people per day passed through Hall 8.
Departmental director of the Regional Health Agency, Thierry Cardouat noted the “significant drop in demand” which is at the origin of the closure of the vaccinodrome which, in mid-February, was only concerned for the end of March. He also notes that city medicine “has strongly taken over” with the management, last week, of 63% of the vaccinations carried out.
Towards a closure of other sites
The principle therefore remains “adaptation to demand”. In Toulouse, hall 8 has been taken over by the municipal hall in the allées de Barcelona. In the department, six centers are still in operation but with reduced hours. And these were all to close on March 31, as is also indicated on the sante.fr site which lists these sites. Thierry Cardouat confirms this horizon while remaining cautious. “Everything is not completely fixed. »
On January 12, a second vaccinodrome had opened in Toulouse, Mermoz room. It was closed ten days later. As of yesterday, 90.5% of Haut-Garonne residents over the age of 65 had received a 3rd dose. And 72.8% of 18-64 year olds.
The vaccinodrome had been open for the first time from April 7, 2021 to October 23, 2021. More than 660,000 people had received their first and second injection there. This had made Toulouse the most important site in France.
