Mitchell assures that he will be at the club next year and confirms his confidence in Clément
In an interview with Nice-Matin this Wednesday, Paul Mitchell expressed his confidence in Philippe Clément as AS Monaco entered an important week of their season. The sports director of ASM also ensures that he will be present next season, like the Belgian technician, who needs time.
Arrived at the beginning of January to replace Niko Kovac, Philippe Clément did not rectify the situation of AS Monaco, currently eighth in Ligue 1 after 28 days. Beaten by Strasbourg last Sunday (1-0), the Monegasque club is entering an important week with an eighth return to the Europa League against Braga on Thursday (2-0 defeat in the first leg) and a shock against PSG this Sunday (1 p.m.) in the championship.
Clement is “a great coach” for Mitchell
Sports director of the ASM, Paul Mitchell wanted this Wednesday to show his support for his coach. “I have total confidence in Philippe Clément. He is a winner, an extremely studious and hard-working coach. He was still there at 9 p.m. yesterday when I left the training center. He is the first to arrive and the last to go, Mitchell told Nice morning. He’s a great coach. He has also already shown that he knows how to help young people progress.”
For Paul Mitchell, there is therefore no doubt that Philippe Clément can finish the season. “We have to be patient and give him time. The last coach (Niko Kovac), we had given him our support for sixteen months, commented the sporting director. Philippe needs the same thing. He will be a great investment in the last seasons for the club.”
A “long-term project”
Under contract until June 2024, Philippe Clément has “a tremendous work ethic” according to Paul Mitchell, who assures that his coach is “a winner” not to be underestimated. However, the sporting director understands the current “disappointment” of the supporters. “When I arrived at the club, I said it was a long-term project. I had been very clear that if we lost games, we had to lose in a certain way”, assured Mitchell, confident for the future.
Seen recently at Old Trafford, alongside Ralf Rangnick, Manchester United coach Paul Mitchell assures that he will be in Monaco next season. “I have never felt so much energy as in this project, assured the former Leipzig scout. I played football for a long time. I saw the good things and the difficulties of this sport. Work on the long term is the way to success. I’ve never been so hungry.”
