German tourists massively choose the Netherlands during their Easter holidays
Foreign tourists know how to find their way to the Netherlands again. In the Easter period, the amount of foreign tourists is more than 60%, according to data from Belvilla. Foreign exchange is back at the same level as 2019.
Easter between 2 and 17 April 2022
Many European countries Easter holidays between April 2 and 17. Of all tourists in Dutch holiday homes, 63% come from abroad. More than half of all tourists come from Germany and 9.3% come from Belgium.
In comparison, during the Easter holidays last year, only 17% of tourists came from abroad. At that time, of course, there was still a lockdown. In the Easter holidays of 2019, the proportion of foreign tourists is 63%. Even then, mainly Germans and Belgians stayed in Dutch holiday homes.
Hanita van der Meer, director of PR and communication of Belvilla by OYO, sees that not only Dutch tourists are looking abroad again: “We also see more foreign tourists coming to the Netherlands. Although the Netherlands does not have an Easter weekend, spring is generally popular to book a weekend away. But also during the Easter weekend we see that the share of foreign tourists is greater than the share of Dutch people in Dutch holiday homes.”
