Fan of “Space Fortress”? They need you to understand how the brain works
And if you play the game “Space Fortress” to advance science? Last year, researchers in neuro-ergonomics and human factors from the Toulouse engineering school ISAE-Supaero launched an unprecedented experiment using this video game to show the impact of electrical stimulation to improve performance.
“We had formed two groups, one stimulated, the other not, which all took part in three training sessions lasting twenty minutes. The stimulated group had a performance gain of 10% over time compared to the control group. This made it possible to suppress the fact that the stimulation modulated cerebral plasticity and allowed better maintenance of what was learned”, explains one of the researchers, Sébastien Scannella, whose work is soon to appear in the journal Scientific reports.
ISAE-Supaéro is looking for volunteers aged 18 to 35
Results that could have a role to play in particular in the recovery of cognitive functions for people who have had brain damage.
To go further in understanding these mechanisms, his team has just launched a new experience using the same video game. The researchers will examine the brains of players at rest and see if what emerges could help predict their performance at performing complex tasks.
To achieve this, ISAE-Supaéro is looking for volunteers aged 18 to 35 who can participate in two sessions of approximately 1h30. To apply, you must register with [email protected]
