This will now be a routine operation for the sanitation department of the Rouen Normandy metropolis : waste collection via nets arranged along the Seine. On Tuesday March 15, 2022, a lifting operation was carried out, Quai du Pré-aux-Loupsa Rouen (Seine-Maritime), and more than a ton of waste has thus been prevented from flowing into the river, and then into the oceans.
Wipes, masks, bottles…
These nets were installed in November, and a first lift was carried out in December. 500 kilos of waste had then been collected, including a lot of sanitary wipes, masks, plastic bottles, etc. This is waste from the public space, washed away by rainwater, dumped into the Seine and rivers through the sewerage network.
“Then, the frequency of lifting will depend on the precipitation, knowing that there we had a fairly calm winter in rain, with 50 millimeters per month, which is very little, specifies Sébastien Vannier, network operations manager at the Métropole Rouen Normandie . But I think anyway we will be back in a month or two to do a new lifting. »
