New cleaning action on Sunday, March 20 from Save Your Hood
On Sunday, March 20, on the occasion of the International Earth Day, a new cleaning action is organized by save your hood in eastern Thessaloniki.
For the past 15 months volunteers team’s save your hood Thermaikos & Thessaloniki have made more than 60 cleaning actions on beaches, wetlands, streams, illegal landfills, parks, streets and squares and have collected more than 800,000 liters of garbage, which translates into thousands of garbage bags and bulky.
On Sunday, March 20, on the occasion of the International Earth Day, save your hood organizes a new cleaning action throughout the road that connects Nea Michaniona with Epanomi 7.5 km long and the vertical road 3 km long that leads to Gerovasiliou Estate, until the entrance of Epanomi.
Supporters in the project are the deputy mayor for cleanliness of the municipality of Thermaikos, the Cultural Cultural Association of Angelochori, the Cultural Cultural Association of Nea Michaniona, the Cultural Association of Epanomi, the Gerovasiliou Estate and the organization run by ENAL.
On Sunday, March 20, at 11.00 am, the volunteers will meet in the cemeteries of Nea Michaniona and in the parking lot at the Gerovasiliou Estate. It will be transported by bus to predetermined points of action at 13:00 when we are picked up to return to the starting point.
Vehicles of the Gerovassiliou estate will undertake the transport of garbage to the cemeteries of Nea Michaniona, where there is one of ENALIA.
The only concern of the volunteers is that they do not have work gloves to work safely.
In addition to cleaning, the goal, according to Save your hood, is to reach out to fellow citizens who will volunteer to educate residents about the next step in packaging management and to strengthen the circular economy effort. That is, limitation of the generated garbage, the reuse of objects and finally the recycling.
“Our Earth needs to be relieved of the weight of our rubbish, in the hope that one day happiness will return, through another way of life centered on the human citizen and not the consumer,” the statement said.
