Near Toulouse, land made available to market gardeners
The city of Colomiers puts a 8 hectare plots available to farmers. Two or three will be selected to work the land located northwest of the town, chemin de Sélery. The producers have until March 31 to show up with the municipality. The exploitation of the municipal plot will have to meet very specific criteria.
Candidates must present a vegetable production project, in a short circuit and nearby, eco-friendly and in an agro-ecological approach: for example, in agriculture peasant, organic or biodynamic“, says Cédric Aït-Ali, deputy mayor of Colomiers in charge of the social and solidarity economy.
Financial contribution of the city to the installation of market gardeners
The collaboration will be concretized by a nine-year rural lease with environmental clauses renewable. Selected farmers could also land a contract with Colomiers to supply the municipal catering center and possibly offer direct sales in the city’s markets.
After an initial pre-selection phase, the selected projects will be known during the month of June, for production at spring 2023. The municipality will participate financially in the installation of market gardeners who will be supported by the Association for the development of agricultural and rural employment in Haute-Garonne (ADEAR 31).
This approach fits as part of the “Fertile City” program set up by the town hall, owner of 29 hectares of agricultural land. The main objective is to offer local market gardeners to the Columérins.
