Toulouse: don’t throw away your appliances, repair them
Murfy offers to repair your home appliances. Based in Toulouse since 2019, the company is growing rapidly, meeting the new needs of consumers.
Vincent is in trouble: his washing machine is out of order. “There are big leaks from the start, and it foams a lot,” he complains to Guillaume, a repairman at Murfy. Since 2019, this company has been offering to repair your broken down appliances at home. If you are not a handyman but your refrigerator, dishwasher or microwave no longer work, all you have to do is make an appointment online. A technician then rings at your door within 48 hours and reimburses €85, a fixed rate. Once the origin of the problem has been identified, you pay again only for the spare part necessary for the repair if necessary.
Guillaume has been working at Murfy for almost 3 years. He performs an average of eight surgeries a day. “I cover the entire Southwest, from Montauban to Albi via Toulouse,” he explains. When the customer informs upstream the model of his defective device, Guillaume goes on site with the spare part likely to correspond to the needs. He then presents a “forecast”, a preparatory estimate including the price of the appropriate part. “We have the equipment delivered at night directly to the trunk of our vehicles. When we leave for an intervention in the morning, everything is ready”, explains Guillaume. For his part, Vincent, the Toulouse customer of the day, had not communicated the reference of the washing machine. When Guillaume examines the machine, he discovers that it has already been repaired. Evidenced by the piece of black tape roughly wrapped around the drain pipe. “We took it back from my mother-in-law eight years ago. She had bought it new two years earlier,” says Vincent, surprised. The pipe is pierced, Guillaume does not have the part necessary for the changer. He can only advise Vincent to wash at 90° empty once a month in order to extend the life of his machine.
In the afternoon, Vincent will receive an estimate revealing the price of the part necessary for the repair, or “around thirty euros”, says Guillaume from experience. If he declines the company’s offer, Vincent can then be reimbursed the amount of the intervention in credit with which he will buy a refurbished device from Murfy. “That’s also what appealed to me,” admits Guillaume. “I try as much as possible to buy refurbished now, for my mobile phone for example”, abounds the young man, who puts forward ecological and budgetary reasons to explain his choice. After having repaired more than 6000 items in 2 years, Murfy hopes to open a new reconditioning workshop in Toulouse in addition to those in Bobigny, Lille, Nantes and Lyon. The company is also recruiting 5 to 10 technicians for the Toulouse religion. Notice to candidates, it takes “50% technique and 50% relational”, assures Gabriel Valente, Murfy manager of the southern zone.
