A real handover. Since the very end of February 2022, the bar of the Jardin des Plantes in Toulouse, renamed “Chez César”, is commissioned by Chloé Destreil. The 41-year-old succeeds Denise Guyot, who had become the mascot of a place in which she had officiated for a while. several decades.
“This is the place I dreamed of”
A pure Toulouse native, Chloé Destreil is in the hotel and catering business ” always. I studied and worked there“. She accompanied her parents, who ran a hotel in Blagnac, for 8 years. “I took over the breakfast room, and I had gone upstairs a restaurant, who worked a lot with Airbus subcontractors, at noon. »
She then took over the management of Aude, after having put her career on hold to take care of her two children. “I did seasons in Carcassonne, in the city. It was always the same system with tapas boards, good products, but something quite simple, because I’m not a big cook at heart. » Before the big jump.
“I wanted to have something all year round to stop the seasons. I applied for town hall kiosks for 3 years. I made lots of requests, I had refusals. The last one was was a kiosk next to the Cité de l’Espace. The first file, I had called it “Chez Antoine”, it is the name of my youngest son. The second file, it was with the name of my eldest son, Cesar. He was the one chosen, so that’s why I called him that.”
His application for baggage claim at the Jardin des Plantes was therefore accepted. Chloé Destreil is delighted: “ this is the place I dreamed of, I’m very happy. The setting is fabulous. Working in these conditions, there is no better. It is the ideal”.
“Denise, it was an institution”

“Denise wanted to retire, she was a bit fed up. We did something very different, newer, we put a more “punchy” side to the decoration. Denise hadn’t made food at all for seven years. We made a nice little menu for lunch.”
Caesar salad, pasta salad, homemade breaded chicken, salmon bagel, pastrami bun, homemade fries, croque-monsieur, but also pancakes, waffles, muffins and donuts are on the menu. “There are not many choices, but these are only good productswe try to compose with fresh products “, comments Chloé Destreil.
“We take the bread from Beauhair, Place des Carmelites. He’s a great baker, ”she continues, before noticing. “For the moment, it is the snacks that are a hit. People still don’t know we’re here at lunchtime. »
A good start and ambition
On Wednesday March 9, 2022, after 10 days of opening, Chloé Destreil, who officiates with 3 employees, took stock of this new adventure. ” We were very happy from the start. There were a lot of people during the holidays, we were lucky with the weather,” relishes the manager. Who tackled the next few weeks with ambition.
“We are going to have artisanal ice cream in 15 days, we have taken the Faur brand. It is a very good brand. We will have between 12 and 15 flavors. We will also have ice cream for children. here a month, when we will change time, we would like to make tapas aperitif boards. I have license 3, so we will make aperitifs with wine and beer.”
The terrace, which can accommodate around sixty people, is open, for the moment, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. “From the beautiful days, will close at 8 p.m., and at 9 p.m. during the summer, until the end of September”, explains the Toulousaine.
