Suzanne A. Sindt Obituary – The Pueblo Chief
Susanne A. Sindt
Suzanne A. Sindt died on March 6, 2022 in Pueblo, Colorado. She was 81 years old. Born and raised in Davos, Switzerland, she traveled to Colorado Springs with her parents, George and Helen Hasler, in 1965 to compete in the World Figure Skating Championships at the Broadmoor Hotel. In love with the USA, she decided to work on Broadmoor for a few years to improve her English. That plan changed when Frederick R. Sindt (1936-1999) swept her off her feet and married her in 1967. They had a child, Petra, in 1969. Suzanne became a US citizen in 1976. Suzanne was an accountant and kept the books for organizations such as the Broadmoor Volunteer Fire Department, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and then for Sindt Advertising, which she and Fred co-launched in 1977 from the guest bedroom of their home. As a child, her competitive and tenacious nature turned her to figure skating, but Suzanne had always dreamed of playing tennis. While her competitors across Colorado have wished tennis had stayed a dream, Suzanne’s lifelong band of tennis friends are so glad she picked up a racquet. And so is her current partner on and off the pitch, Jon Ellis. Suzanne and Jon played as opponents across the net for years, but after each losing their spouses within a year, they found in each other the perfect companion that put them on the same side of the net. Not only were the two Colorado State mixed doubles champions in their age group for several years, they also hiked to Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon, Greenhorn Mountain and traveled the world together before returning to their home in Pueblo. In recent years, as vascular dementia robbed Suzanne of her independence, Jon wrapped Suzanne in a cloak of deep love, the kind we could all hope for at the end of our lives. Suzanne is survived by partner Jon Ellis of Pueblo, Colorado; her daughter Petra Sindt Williams (Eric) of Flagstaff, Arizona and Guysville, Ohio; her brother Beat Hasler (Renate) from Davos, Switzerland; her sister Lilo Valsangiacomo (Luciano) from Lugano, Switzerland; nieces, Michaela Rossel from Davos, Switzerland, Alexandra Schlegel from Zurich, Switzerland and Christina Valsangiacomo from Lugano, Switzerland; Nephews, Martin Hasler and Mischa Hasler from Zurich, Switzerland, Dave Stewart from Seattle, Washington, Todd Stewart and Jamie Stewart from Olympia, Washington, and Joel Stewart from Kyoto, Japan.
