March for the climate in Toulouse. “Local and national politicians must act quickly”, an alert organizer
Marches for the climate took place everywhere in France this Saturday, March 12, 2022. In Toulouse, an organizer alerted to the urgency of a situation which is “not relayed enough in the media and non-existent in the presidential campaign”.
Despite the bad weather, demonstrators gathered in Toulouse for a climate march this Saturday March 12, 2022 from Place Jean-Jaurès to Allées Jules Guesde. Among them, Régine Lange, 59, volunteer with France Nature Environment. For her, this kind of action is an obvious necessity”one month before the presidential election and while the climate issue is not relayed in the media and is absent from the presidential campaign.” And to resume: “an IPCC report alarming came out and nobody talks about it!“
She explains that it was decided that the march be named “Search” in reference to the film of the same name by Adam McKay with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. The film tells the story of two astronomers who try, in vain, to alert the media, political leaders and the world to a meteorite that is about to destroy the Earth.
For Régine, the climate must return to the heart of the presidential campaign, “in order to obtain important, simple and significant actions“.
This is not to underestimate the war in Ukraine but to explain that the crises are interdependent. The fuel poverty problems of low-income people, for example, are partly explained by excessive dependence on fossil fuels and their prices.

She points out that climate changegoing to continue the crisis because we are too dependent on fossil fuel producing countries“.
Régine recalls the urgency of the situation. For her, the next term is now or never to act because things are spreading quickly. “It is already recorded that the rise in temperatures will exceed one and a half degrees by 2030. This will cause phenomena of drought, increased intensity of rains and heat peaks. Every half degree you can gain is important!” she expands.
The Toulousaine is worried about the disastrous and uncontrollable consequences. For her, it is up to local and national leaders to act.
The message to be conveyed is first addressed to political figures. “Part of the journey can be done individually, but it is still necessary to give citizens the means to act by developing daily public transport, for example, so that they no longer use their car or even build better insulated housing to reduce the heating consumption“explains Régine.
In Toulouse, there is still room for improvement regarding ecology, according to this activist. “At the local level, we must accelerate the ecological transition, the objective of which is to reach -40% by 2030, while in Toulouse we are only at -9% currently!” argues Régine. For her, we must reduce the place of the car in the city and build new housing that consumes less energy.
In the Pink City, Régine is delighted with the success of this march for the climate”which brought together all generations“.
