Sustainability is part of the mission statement of the educational provider association Campus Berlin
The management team of Campus Berlin, the association consisting of the independent educational institution Campus Berufsbildung e. V. and the companies Campus Health and Campus & More, decided in their last management meeting to anchor sustainability and climate protection at all campus school locations as a model.
The free education provider Campus Berlin does not start from scratch. Many different projects have been approved and implemented in recent years.
“We are currently preparing the installation of remote-controlled heating controllers, including for automated night-time reduction.” reports Rudi Kirchner, board member and one of the two founders of Campus more than 21 years ago.
A special challenge is the school location Campus am Südkreuz, specializing in training for a social or nursing profession. The building is a historical monument. “Here, with some effort, we installed mobile partition walls. This serves to improve the ecological balance by making greater use of the building area.” says Detlev Hoffmeister, board member and founder. In addition, the CampusClimaClub was founded in 2019 on the campus at Südkreuz – a student association that, among other things, introduced waste separation in the classrooms.
The decision to include education for sustainable development based on the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda as a guiding principle and learning objective now increases the focus on student participation, in addition to the sustainability aspects already integrated into the learning content. Participation in the “Berlin Climate Schools” competition is the next milestone on the way to more sustainability. The achieved mark of almost 20% share of ordered office products with positive environmental features in 2021 is to be increased to 50% in the current year.
