Led from the 3rd minute of play, the Monegasques suffered in the first half against Braga in the round of 16 first leg of the Europa League, despite several chances to come back.
It must be said that AS Monaco started their match very badly, conceding a goal from Abel Ruiz in the third minute of play after a failed recovery from Tchouameni.
Feverish and in danger each time the Portuguese ventured into their camp, the Monegasques were saved by a superb save from Nübel against Medeiros (7′).
But they had the merit of recovering little by little in the place, then settling in the camp of SC Braga.
The opportunities then multiplied on both sides.
In the 22nd, Matheus took out Vanderson’s free kick that neither Volland nor Disasi had managed to take back.
Three minutes later, the Braga goalkeeper won his duel against Ben Yedder, whom Gelson had served perfectly.
This same Gelson a raw equalizer in the 29th minute with a small well-felt dive but the Portuguese was flagged offside. Just like Ben Yedder a few minutes later, while Nübel had meanwhile been saved by his post on a long shot from Ricardo Horta.
The German was decisive again just before half-time, folding very quickly to block Gomes’ strike.
