A new Hungarian ambassador accredited to Monaco
On March 8, the new ambassadors of Australia, Ukraine, Egypt and Hungary in Monaco signed their credentials to HSH the Sovereign Prince Albert II. Georges Habsbourg-Lorraine, new representative of Hungary in the Principality, agreed to answer questions from Benjamin Ducongé.
Hungary and Monaco are recent diplomatic partners. The first relations date back to 2016. HE Georges Kàrolyi was the first ambassador to the Principality. The Eastern European country wants to establish economic and commercial contacts with other European countries. Georges Habsbourg-Lorraine, the new emissary on the Rock, wants greater collaboration. He wants cooperation in international organizations like the UN and the Council of Europe.
The government of Viktor Orban is very conservative. A position that does not please within the European Union. On December 13, 2021, French President Emmanuel Macron traveled to Budapest. He explained the political differences between the two countries but confirmed the good understanding with the EU.
Hungary is at the heart of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. ” We live in a disaster“, declares Georges Habsbourg-Lorraine. His country has a common border with Ukraine. Since the start of the war, 180,000 refugees have arrived in Hungary. The ambassador hopes for an improvement in the situation even if the ” politicians say the situation will not change in the coming weeks“. Hungary is making every effort to welcome Ukrainians as well as possible.
