VIDEO. In Toulouse, more than 3,000 women demonstrate for their rights
More than 3,000 people took to the streets on March 8 in Toulouse, on the occasion of Women’s Rights Day.
“We are strong, we are proud, and angry feminists and radicals.” This slogan was sung in unison by thousands of demonstrators this Tuesday afternoon, from the Jolimont metro station to the Palais de Justice in Toulouse, via the Jean-Jaurès alleys and the Alsace-Lorraine street. Tasting their revenge on a public space in which so many of them feel attacked every day, women appropriated the streets of Toulouse on Tuesday.
A mixed procession chosen
Margot, Nolwenn, Marie and “Pops” are friends. This is their first demonstration of March 8, International Women’s Rights Day. “It was while growing up that I gradually became aware of the fight to be fought”, explains Nolwenn. Like her, many of the activists of the day are not members of a political organization, union, association or even citizen. “It’s the only day I feel safe on the street,” said one of them calmly. The head procession is in chosen mix, “that is to say with women of all ages and skin colors”, explains Pauline, from the We All movement.
In the procession, however, men are present like Paul, who came to support a cause “which concerns us all”. Certain trade union organizations (CGT, Solidaires) and political organizations (La France Insoumise, Le Nouveau Parti Anticapitaliste) also. “The more time passes, the more radical we are,” say Inès and Myriam, students. No doubt possible, the younger generation is engaged.
