Ukraine raid – Human chain at Europe crossroads in Brussels for peace and de-escalation – Belgium
(Belga) About sixty people, according to the organization about 200, formed a people’s chain for peace at the Europe crossroads in Brussels on Wednesday from 6 to 7 pm.
The participants joined forces and form a circle around the esplanade in front of the Brussels-Central train station. They carried rainbow flags with the word “peace” on them. In the center was a flag with the message “Nothing hugely important but peace” and the protesters chanted “Stop the war”. A minute of silence was held in honor of the conflict. The human chain was an initiative of various peace movements, including 11.11.11, aan de Yzer, Ander Europa, Agir pour La Paix, Attac Brussel and Vrede vzw. With the action they wanted to start the Russian invasion in the most powerful but above all to de-escalation, “because the war only causes suffering”. “We demand an immediate ceasefire, the resumption of negotiations and support for the hamburgers,” said the non-profit association Vrede in a press release. “We will continue to set our demands in the weeks to come.” A message from Yuri Shelyazhenko, of the peace movement in Ukraine, was also read to the protesters. “Russia must step back and stop the war on Ukraine, and NATO must take a step back by giving up its positions around Ukraine and stop supporting the war effort,” he said. “I propose that a civil society in the world appoint an independent expert committee to resolve the crisis in Ukraine peacefully.
