Peter Bosz thanks video referee three times and wins against FC Porto
Olympique Lyon took an important step towards the quarterfinals of the Europa League on Wednesday evening. On a visit to FC Porto, the team of trainer Peter Bosz won 0-1. The return will take place next Thursday in Lyon. The video referee played an important role, by approving a goal from Lyon, withdrawing a penalty for Porto and disapproving the maker of Porto in minute 95. Porto’s elimination was developed in a battle for second place.
FC Porto – Olympique Lyon 0-1
Porto, of course, defended on a run of eighteen adjacent games, but made no impression in the first half. The best opportunities were for the visitors from Lyon: in the eleventh minute a dangerous header from Ousmane Dembélé was saved by Diogo Costa; seven minutes before the break a Roma moment emerged after a cross from the left flank. Both Dembélé and Karl Toko Ekambi wanted to finish from close range. eventually Toko Ekambi got the ball in front of his feet, but he shot into the side net from close range. A subtle lob from Vitinha was tapped over the bar by Anthony Lopes, a later swipe by Pepe was a prey for the keeper.
In the second half of Lyon where it hoped. Toko Ekambi served Dembélé, who deftly found Lucas Paquetá. The Brazilian finished in the bottom left corner. Initially, the goal was rejected due to the alleged offside of Dembélé, but that turned out not to be the case. The VAR was in favor of Lyon when Paquetá got the ball through his own knee against the arm in the box. Referee José María Sánchez whistled for a penalty, but looked at the images on the advice of VAR and withdrew his decision. In minute 95, the VAR again became of great value to Porto. Chancel Mbemba thought to equalize, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Lyon has good papers with a view to next week’s return.
Real Betis – Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2
The first half hour in the Benito Villamarín was full of spectacle, more than the sixty minutes could offer. In the fourteenth minute, Filip Kostic opened the score in a phenomenal way, by pinning the ball over Claudio Bravo from the left wing. It is actually quite possible that the former FC Groningen winger actually had a cross in mind. Nabil Fekir brought Betis back into the game by pulling in from the right and hitting the far corner with his left: 1-1. The Spaniards lost two minutes later in the build-up, resulting in Daichi Kamada getting a simple striker: 1-2. Shortly after the break, the Germans received a penalty due to an unfortunate handball by Aitor eleven Ruibal, but Rafael Borré ruined the opportunity of meter. Sam Lammers came in at Frankfurt in the final phase and came close after a nice assumption, but his shot missed direction.
Former @Fc Groningen-star Filip Kostic with a lovely lob! But was it conscious of a luck? †
