Luxemburg. A new César for Luxembourg audiovisual production
Long in the shadows, Luxembourg’s audiovisual production, thanks to a proactive state policy, was placed in the spotlight during the 47th Césars ceremony in Paris on 25 February. ” The summit of the gods », co-produced in the Grand Duchy, received the statuette for best animated film, just a year after « Deux », César for best first film and « Ernest et Célestine », César for best animated film in 2013. The Capitani series broadcast on Netflix is also one of the successes retained by the Luxembourg film industry, the second season of which is currently visible on Tuesdays on RTL. “Luxembourg produces a lot: TV series, short and feature films, animated films, documentaries, etc., and is now part of the selections at all festivals,” notes Guy Daleiden, director of the Film Fund Luxembourg.
Digital creation
Forty million euros are invested each year in audiovisual production and its promotion and more than 1,000 people make a living from this profession in the Grand Duchy. While it is too early to speak of “booming”, the sector is making great strides. “For fifty years, the date of the establishment of public aid, our producers have continued to professionalize and are internationally recognized”, Guy Daleiden who more than anything wishes not to “miss the train of digital creation “. This is why the Grand Duchy invests massively in immersive works. As proof, the exhibition currently held in the pavilion of the Neimënster cultural center in Luxembourg City until March 13, 2022. This fourth edition highlights ten virtual reality works, some of which have been selected and awarded at the Biennale. of Venice as well as six 360° films to watch on site. “The concept has evolved over time and taken on another dimension,” says Guy Daleiden. And to add: “The exhibition has gained recognition. It is by investing in the distribution of works that we give them the possibility of being seen… and appreciated. »
