The Annecy Festival 2022 offers itself a beautiful poster: “And sails the ship of animation!”
The festival wanted to highlight Lake Annecy.
Preparing for a 100% online edition for 2022, the Annecy festival is starting to tell a few things about the upcoming edition. Starting with its poster, signed by Laurent Durieuxfamous poster artist who usually designed alternative posters of cult films by Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg or Paul Thomas Anderson:
This festival poster is therefore not the first for Laurent Durieux, who has for example imagined a new visual of American-style Francoiscreated on the occasion of an exhibition commemorating the work of director Jacques Tati, and of which one of the latest alternative posters to date is that ofRevelation now used for the re-release of Coppola’s film. The artist also produced the poster for the 42nd Telluride Festival in 2015 and the 18th Utopiales Festival in 2017.
For the festival team, what makes Durieux’s work so unique and that he “awakens the imagination by telling a story in an aesthetic image that is both retro and futuristic. Its universe, recognizable among a thousand, takes us this time on a beautiful journey whose destination is: Annecy, its lake and its Festival !” Several symbolic elements of the festival are thus concealed on the poster, recalling Annecy and the festival it hosts each year. “It’s all there: the reference to the lake of course, to animation and its perpetual motion, but also, very subtly, to neighboring Switzerland, whose animated creation will be honored this year”, details the organizing team. Marcel Jean, artistic delegate, has also promoted the quality of the work of the artist behind the poster. “Working with Laurent Durieux was a dream for the Annecy team. His poster, of exceptional refinement, encourages us to scrutinize the details of the illustration for a long time. From the work on light and colors emerge a great serenity. And sail the ship of animation!“
This poster illustrates the 2022 edition of the international animation festival housed in Annecy each year, which will open from June 13 to 18, in parallel with the Mifa from June 14 to 17.
