Champions League: FC Bayern leads Salzburg
Status: 08.03.2022 23:34
FC Bayern Munich reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League on Tuesday evening (March 8th, 2022). Robert Lewandowski (12th minute, 21st, 30th), Serge Gnabry (31st), Thomas Müller (54th, 83rd) and Leroy Sané (85th) scored in the 7-1 (4-0) against RB Salzburg for the Bavarians. For Salzburg, the trip to Bayern turned out to be a nightmare. Maurits Kjærgaard’s goal (70′) was no consolation either.
You don’t like trading with Maximilian Wöber. Wöber, 24, is a central defender at RB Salzburg, there are not many in Austria who are better at this job. On Tuesday evening (March 8th, 2022), Wöber’s Salzburgers will play in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League at FC Bayern. Getting through was her dream, Bayern are making it a nightmare.
In the end it is 7: 1 (4: 0), Bayern had little trouble. Man of the evening was Robert Lewandowski, he scored three times in less than eleven minutes. Of course, his opponent Wöber didn’t look good. Once, when Wöber had just caused a penalty kick for the second time, he was seen raising his arms and shaking his head. Wöber looked somewhat resigned, you could understand him.
It all started with Wöber and Lewandowski in the first quarter of an hour. After a cross from Kingsley Coman, Lewandowski turned around his opponent, Wöber hit him in the foot – penalty for Bayern. Of course, Lewandowski himself followed, he pushed the ball down to the left, Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Köhn had no chance (12th).
Eight games, twelve goals – Lewandowski particularly likes to score in the Champions League
Just nine minutes later, Wöber caught Lewandowski on the foot again – foul, at least that was undisputed. The referee Clément Turpin initially decided on a free kick and after consultation with the VAR gave a penalty kick, it was the right decision. And because it had worked so well before, Lewandowski shot again, even opting for the same corner – 2-0.
It wasn’t long before Wöber and Lewandowski had another duel. Bayern had won the ball in midfield and Muller put it in the middle of the defence. Wöber took a step towards the ball and pulled back, goalkeeper Köhn came out and was too late – the rest was easy exercise for Lewandowski.

It was goal number twelve for the attacker in the eighth Champions League game this season – an impressive rate even for someone like Lewandowski.
Gnabry, Müller and Sané round off the result
The game was decided, the class difference between Bayern and Salzburg was too obvious, and the result too early. After a long diagonal ball from Coman, Gnabry scored FC Bayern’s fourth goal after half an hour with a shot from twelve meters.
In the second half, Müller then scored twice. First he shot the ball from fourteen meters with his left foot in the top right corner. Just before the end he was successful with his left foot, again from the turn. Sané scored Bayern’s last goal, the template came from Lewandowski.
Once before, however, the guests from Salzburg were also allowed to cheer. Once Bayern had advanced but lost the ball, Brenden Aaronson set Kjærgaard on. The Dane’s shot was nice and accurate, landing right in the corner. Manuel Neuer in goal had no chance – he will be able to get over it.
