There is a great awareness of equality in Berlin – BZ Berlin
Berlin’s Equal Opportunities Senator Ulrike Gote sees women better off in the East than in the West.
In principle, the earnings gap in the East German states is smaller than in the West German states, the Greens politician told the “Berliner Morgenpost” (Monday). In Berlin it was ten percent in 2020, in Bavaria it was over 20 percent.
“I think it also has to do with the Equality Act. In Berlin, due to legislation, there are many women in higher positions. But I’ll only be satisfied when there is no more gender pay gap,” said Gote, who previously sat in the Bavarian state parliament for many years.
“Berlin was also a role model for us in Bavaria when it came to the Gender Equality Act. In general, I notice that there is a much more conscious attitude to the issue of equality here in Berlin than in the south of the republic,” said the senator.

There is a great awareness in Berlin that equality is important: “Even in the language. Gender-appropriate language is used much more normally in Berlin than in most other federal states.”
