Gelson Martins elected Monegasque MVP of the clash against OM
Already present in L’Équipe type for the 27th day of Ligue 1, the Portuguese winger, sole scorer in the victory against Marseille (1-0), was named man of the match by Monegasque fans on the AS Monaco App.
He was finally rewarded! Very restless in recent games, since he took place in the left lane of the Monegasque attack, Gelson Martins turned into a finisher this Sunday, during the beautiful victory against OM (1-0). Encouraged by his coach, Philippe Clément, very complimentary to his expected pre-match press conference, the Portuguese winger indeed found the nets of Pau Lopez, shortly before the hour mark (58th).
For me, he is a player with a lot of qualities, especially in terms of speed and technique. (…) I want to work with him so that he finds more regularity. It’s a matter of trust, in my opinion. He may doubt more easily than the others, but when you have the qualities he has, you shouldn’t have that feeling.
About Gelson Martins
4th but of the season in the league
Very valuable in the defensive replacement in a game where the Olympians had control of the ball, he took advantage of a shot from Kevin Volland pushed back by the post to find the opening. Perfectly placed to regain the ball, the Monegasque number 7 did not have to be asked to register his 16th but under the colors of AS Monaco, his fourth season in Ligue 1. A new achievement that rewards the selflessness of the Portuguese winger, very generous in the effort.

Great efforts for the collective
Evidenced by his statistics in the field: three recovered balls, two successful tackles, an interception and a defensive clearance. A burst of energy that allowed the Monegasque collective, very solid at the Stade Vélodrome, to seek a prestigious victory. A shock during which Vanderson, the young Brazilian side (20 years old) arrived this winter from Grêmio Porto Alegre, also shone with his slaughter in the right lane.
MVP for the 4th time this season
Author of a full match (5 recoveries, 2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 clearances), he is part, like Gelson, of the 11 type of L’Équipe on this Monday. Not surprisingly to see Gelson Martins being elected MVP by Monegasque fans on the AS Monaco App, with 38% of the vote… just ahead of Vandi (36%)! Already named best player of the match in Bordeaux, the winger of the Red and Whites is thus rewarded for the 4th time of the season. Kudos to him!
The typical team of the 27th day of Ligue 1: Laborde in the lead
Rennais Gaëtan Laborde is for the sixth time this season in our standard team. Only Téji Savanier, the leader with “L’Équipe” ratings, does better with 7 appearances https://t.co/Jcm7HcWjoG pic.twitter.com/5y5Uf7sSFP
