From Toulouse, how does Taman fight the talent shortage?
Jean-Claude Mazzocco, you are the president of Taman, created just before the pandemic, in other words at the very moment when the aeronautics industry was freezing its hiring, or even laying off staff. How is your business doing?
We achieved 3 million in turnover in 2020, with 77 temporary workers in activity, and 8.3 million euros last year, for 185 temporary workers placed. Our permanent staff has grown from six people to enter today. And our market, focused on aeronautics, has expanded to logistics, for around half of our activity. We operate on the various sites of our customers (Daher, Safran, Axa, Tecalemit, Rafaut Group, etc.), in France. Although the market was less buoyant than we supposed we could hope for at the start, we have therefore succeeded in demonstrating our raison d’être, which is to provide solutions to companies that are recruiting in shortage occupations. Because yes, the shortage exists on certain profiles, but solutions exist!
How do you manage to quickly find boilermakers or even welders, where others cannot?
Recruiting is a job, a process that relies above all on a good understanding of the employer’s needs. It is then a question of translating them into skills and behaviors. We therefore do hunting, but our difference lies precisely in the fact that we assess the skills and behavior of candidates via tests based on soft skills: autonomy, responsiveness, flexibility, decision-making intelligence, etc. on the skills and choice of candidates presented to clients on behavior. A longer cycle, but more adapted to expectations.
With the announced acceleration of aeronautical production rates, the needs will increase in relation and the young people coming out of training will unfortunately not be enough. It is for this reason that we have imagined a new offer…
What is it ?
The provision of young retirees to supervise our temporary beginners and improve their skills. A virtuous circle: for retirees, who sometimes want to continue working at their own pace (ten days a month for example) and without pressure; for young people, who want to learn from experienced people; and of course for the company for which this certainly implies an additional burden, but commendable. We have already detected a dozen young retirees leaving, and five of them have signed a two-year contract.
How do you envision your business developing?
We are very happy to reconnect with our “bases”, which are the short-term jobs in the aeronautics sector, and our objective is to reach 11.5 million euros in turnover this year for around 250 temporary workers in equivalent time. full. We are going to densify our head office in Toulouse and our two offices in Paris and Marignane, and will consider in the longer term the creation of an agency in Saint Nazaire and to support the needs of our customers in Europe.
