Marseille loses again at home, the Vélodrome angry
Olympique de Marseille carried out the bad operation of this 27th day of Ligue 1 by losing to AS Monaco (0-1) on Sunday evening at the Stade Vélodrome. Whistled by their supporters at the end of the game, OM conceded their second defeat in a row at the Vélodrome in L1 and saw their 3rd place on the podium threatened by Stade Rennais.
Monaco showers OM. Despite a sensitive first period, Olympique de Marseille fell at the Vélodrome stadium, beaten 1-0 by a two-faced Monegasque formation, apathetic in the first period, sharp in the second. Gelson Martins offered the winning goal (58th) to ASM which is recovering its head, four days after its elimination in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France in Nantes. This first away success for Philippe Clément allows Monaco to climb to 8th place in the standings.
Saliba: “It sucks to lose again at home”
The formation of Jorge Sampaoli, once again warned for protest, suffered their fourth defeat at home, the second in a row after that conceded against Clermont (2-0). “It sucks to lose again at home”, loose, hot, William Saliba at the microphone of Prime Video. The Marseille players left the lawn on a huge bronca from the Vélodrome. Not only did OM fail to recover their 2nd place but the Olympians, 3rd, are now threatened by Rennes, 4th by one point.
Monaco transformed after the break
Under the eyes of Frank McCourt, Jorge Sampaoli’s team presented themselves with a suspicious profile with Dimitri Payet and Arkaduisz Milik, their two best offensive weapons, holders, just like Cédric Bakambu and Gerson, returned to the right side during the first 45 minutes .
A quartet that works well even if Guendouzi (14th), Rongier (22nd) or Payet (26th) lacks precision. Dominant, OM nevertheless failed to be surprised by an inoffensive Monaco team just before the break. Jean Lucas, on an express counter, sees his but refused for a very limited offside position (42nd).
OM will return to the Vélodrome on Thursday in C4
After the break, the Monegasques became more biting and the Olympians much less precise. The sanction falls on the hour mark when Gelson Martins, opportunist, scores after taking a shot pushed back by the post of Volland (59th).
A but which wakes up the Marseillais a little but like a center-shot from Guendouzi, the Olympians sin in the last gesture. And miss their chance. OM will try to win again on Thursday in the round of 16 first leg of the Conference League against FC Basel before a trip to Brest in a week in the league.
