Suspect in Brussels preparing possible attack in Morocco
A Belgian suspected of being involved in the preparation of ‘imminent terrorist projects’ in Morocco was arrested in Brussels at the end of last week.
That is what Eric Van Der Sypt of the federal prosecutor said on Saturday afternoon. The 27 suspect has been taken by a Brussels investigating judge. His extradition to Morocco is not on the agenda.
“It was designed and because he is suspected of planning an attack in Morocco,” according to Van Der. ‘We work well with the Moroccan services.’
The arrest of the Abdellah Al-jiki was carried out on Friday to Moroccan intelligence services, the AFP news agency announced.
Bombings against foreigners
The case is related to the arrest in Morocco on Wednesday of an extremist linked to the Islamic State terrorist group. The man is suspected of having bombed foreigners, senior Moroccan security and government officials, and military sites and prisons. The 27-year-old suspect is said to have been recruiting helpers for his plan, which was to happen in Moroccan territory.
The person in Belgium has transferred beginnings to the actual man. It concerns a first advance in a financing operation for the purchase of compounds and chemicals used in the production of explosives, the Moroccan police said.
Morocco reported for a long time, but spared from terrorist violence, regular raids and thwarted plans for attacks.
