Standing together for peace in Ukraine
Ukraine war
On Saturday in Innsbruck, in front of the Golden Roof, the Tyrolean population set a visible sign against the war in Ukraine. The Peace Forum Innsbruck called for the non-partisan rally, which was attended by around 1,300 people.
The Ukrainian population in this “senseless war” was commemorated with candles and musical interludes. Only representatives of cultural and civil society, such as the Tyrolean cabaret artist Markus Koschuh, had their say. “No rally can stop bombs and missiles,” he said. But the point is to set an example for Ukraine in Innsbruck as well. According to the Peace Forum, people from Ukraine and Russia living in Tyrol had also agreed to make their comments beforehand.
Texts written by Innsbruck elementary school students, for example, were presented. They were presented in Ukrainian, Russian and German. Candles were brought along – and thus provided a small sea of lights in dark times. The quiet remembrance was in the foreground, framed by the Polish Agnieszka Kulowska from the Tyrolean Symphony Orchestra with the solo violin piece “Sonata for Violin Solo No. 1 in G minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Among those present were Innsbruck’s diocesan bishop Hermann Glettler, state parliament president Sonja Ledl-Rossmann (ÖVP), state parliament vice-president Stephanie Jicha (Greens), state councilor Gabriele Fischer (Greens), Innsbruck’s vice-mayor Markus Lassenberger (FPÖ) and NEOS state spokesman Dominik Oberhofer.
