Lions in the ‘quarters’ of the Portuguese Cup
Travante Williams secured victory (83-86) with a triple on the throw
Sporting Clube de Portugal’s main basketball team secured this Saturday, the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, after beating CAB Madeira by 83-86, in Funchal, in the round of 16 of the competition.
CAB Madeira even started better in the match, winning the first period by 19-13, but in the second Sporting CP managed to convert the superiority into points, thanks to triples from Diogo Ventura and Miguel Cardoso (2) and so on to the front of the scoreboard (28-29), winning 17-23 and heading into the break with a four-point lead – 36-40.
In the third period, CAB Madeira and Sporting CP each scored 23 points, with emphasis on the outside launches of Travante Williams, Tanner Omlid and Diogo Araújo. Lions in front with 59-63 on the scoreboard.
The last period was, like the others, intense and exciting with Alvalade’s team always at the front, but with CAB Madeira equaling the score in the last period (83-83) thanks to a triple by James Southerland. Still, it was Travante Williams who resolved the last encounter with an outside throw in the second of the game.
